WHERE WERE YOU BORN / RAISED- Born in Lake City, Iowa, a three day stop while parents and 3 sisters were moving across the state to live in Iowa City. The family moved again in 1947 to California, settling in Walnut Creek in the Greater East Bay area.

EDUCATION- A.B, English and Music, UC Berkeley (Cal), 1954.; General Secondary Teaching Credential, Cal, 1958; M.A. Secondary School Administration/Curriculum Development, 1962. The delays in my university and graduate studies resulted happily: I met my future wife of 65 years and counting while in graduate classes at Cal.

MILITARY SERVICE- R.O.T.C. Commission, 2d Lt., U.S. Army Infantry, 1954. Active duty, March 1955- March 1957. U.S. Army Infantry Ranger. Stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA remainder of active duty. Discharged as 1st Lt., Company Exec.

CAREER- 3 years on survey crews for Clyde Kennedy Engineering, San Francisco and Leo Coleman Land Surveyor, Lafayette. Major career was Secondary School Teacher, English and Music, 9 years in San Jose and Martinez, and Secondary School Administrator (H.S. Assistant Principal and Jr. High Principal), Lompoc Unified School District, 25 years.

HOW DID YOU END UP ON THE CENTRAL COAST- We left the Bay Area for me to become a school administrator in Lompoc. My wife became an art teacher for the Lompoc Unified School District. On retirement we moved to SLO.

HOBBIES / INTERESTS – Active in my church as chair of many committees, choir member for 67 years, substitute and interim choir director. I enjoy singing, hiking, reading and baking, plus travel in the western states.

NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS – I first attended Br.2/SLORAM in January 1993 as a guest of Little RAM Loren Nicholson, applied for membership in February and was inducted in Marc 1993.

Since then I have served as Little RAM/Program Chair, 5th Big RAM, Representative to the State Board, Director, Chairman Four Seasons Dine Around, Chairman 10 years Day Trips & Outings L.A. to Santa Cruz/Felton, 3rd Big Bean, Chairman 25 years Town History Walks and Active Hikes, Acting Chair 15 years Program Committee (Little RAM was the nominal chair), and speaker for 11 programs at Lunch or Coffee Cabinet.

FAMILY– My wife Beth and I live in SLO. We have 3 sons living in Virginia, Culver City and Los Altos. Our 5 grandchildren live in those areas plus San Francisco. Our three youngest grandchildren will be starting studies at Kings College, London; UC Santa Cruz; and aircraft mechanics courses in Virginia this Fall, 2024.
